Another addition to Pearland’s impressive lineup of life science and medical device companies, Healgen Scientific, a company that develops, manufactures and commercializes in-vitro diagnostic test systems, is constructing its new headquarters facility in Lower Kirby. The four-story, 118,000 square-foot headquarters facility will be located on 6.4 acres at the southwest corner of Hooper Road and Beltway 8. The facility is expected to bring over 200 jobs to Pearland.

PEDC began working with Healgen on the recruitment project in early 2022.

In addition to this headquarter facility, Healgen plans also to construct a two-story, 29,700 square-foot laboratory building at the northwest corner of Hooper Road and N. Spectrum Boulevard.

PEDC RELEASES 2022 ANNUAL REPORT

Cover_PEDC 2022 Annual Report

Each year, PEDC produces an annual report – this report summarizes the activities the corporation has undertaken over the past year and provides a glimpse into our continued efforts to shape our community’s future and ensure Pearland remains a community of choice in greater Houston.

Over the past year, the PEDC continued to coordinate the implementation of the community’s Pearland Prosperity Strategic Plan, collaborating with local partners to make progress on all the plan’s seven focus areas. Significant implementation highlights include the launch of the Pearland Innovation Hub and the launch of our community’s workforce development strategy; continued infrastructure improvements in Lower Kirby, along State Highway 35 and in Old Townsite; and the start of the final phase of beautification efforts along the State Highway 288 corridor. The plan’s website is where you can view plan documents and progress updates.

On behalf of the PEDC staff and Board of Directors, we would like to thank the Pearland community for its support as we work to enhance our economic vitality through the attraction, retention and expansion of primary employers and continue to ensure the creation of new opportunities for Pearland and its residents.

SHADOW CREEK PARKWAY/MCHARD ROAD COMPLETE

The 3.5 mile Mykawa to Cullen segment of the McHard Road/Shadow Creek Parkway extension, a four-lane, divided thoroughfare from Pearland Parkway to FM 521 was recently completed and opened to traffic in April 2023.

This segment completes the Shadow Creek Parkway/McHard Road than spans ten miles and alleviates traffic and congestion by providing another alternate east/west route between SH 288 and SH 35.

As Pearland has continued to grow, so has the need for additional thoroughfares to allow residents to travel across the community. In 2002, PEDC funded the first phase of the project, the McHard bridge from State Highway 35 to Mykawa. This project provided improved access for our many businesses located in the Mykawa area and was the first step to improving east-west mobility in our community and provided the first bridge for the community over the BNSF rail lines.
